Eyelid kinematics for virtual characters
نویسندگان
چکیده
When compared to gaze, animation of the eyelids has been largely overlooked in the computer graphics literature. Eyelid movement plays an important part both in conveying accurate gaze direction and in improving the visual appearance of virtual characters. Eyelids have two major motion components: lid saccades that follow the vertical rotation the eyes, and blinking. Derived from literature in ophthalmology and psychology, this paper presents parametric models for both motion types, and emphasizes their dynamic temporal behaviour. Experimental validation classifies model-generated animation as similar to that encoded from expensive motion captured data, and significantly exceeding linearly interpolated animation. Hybrid Motion Control combining Inverse Kinematics and Inverse Dynamics Controllers for Simulating Percussion Gestures
Virtual characters playing virtual musical instruments in a realistic way need to interact in real-time with the simulated sounding environment. Dynamic simulation is a promising approach to finely represent and modulate this interaction. Moreover, capturing human motion provides a database covering a large variety of gestures with different levels of expressivity. We propose in this paper a ne...
متن کاملExample-Based Motion Synthesis for Virtual Characters in Interactive Applications
Virtual human characters are found in a broad range of applications, from movies, games and networked virtual environments to teleconferencing and tutoring applications. Such applications are available on a variety of platforms, from desktop and web to mobile devices. High-quality animation is an essential prerequisite for realistic and believable virtual characters. Even though researchers are...
متن کاملVirtual Character Animations from Human Body Motion by Automatic Direct and Inverse Kinematics-based Mapping
Motion capture systems provide an efficient and interactive solution for extracting information related to a human skeleton, which is often exploited to animate virtual characters. When the character cannot be assimilated to an anthropometric shape, the task tomapmotion capture data onto the armature to be animated could be extremely challenging. This paper presents two methodologies for the au...
متن کاملMKM: A Global Framework for Animating Humans in Virtual Reality Applications
Virtual humans are more and more used in VR applications but their animation is still a challenge, especially if complex tasks must be carried-out in interaction with the user. In many applications with virtual humans, credible virtual characters play a major role in presence. Motion editing techniques assume that the natural laws are intrinsically encoded in prerecorded trajectories and that m...
متن کاملSemantic Representation of Individualized Reaction Movements for Virtual Humans
Virtual Human (VH) creation aims to provide virtual characters with realistic behavior, which implies endowing them with autonomy in an inhabited virtual environment. Autonomous behavior consists in interacting with users or the environment and reacting to stimuli. Reactions are unconscious behaviors that are not often implemented in virtual humans. Frequently, virtual humans show repetitive an...
